Day 10: FAR Clinic

Day 10 treatments are done for the day.  Everything went smoothly.  John slept well last night, and did fine on all his modalities.  The one thing we changed was his hot tub experience.  Elanda has been conferring with Rod about John's HR post-hyperthermia in the hot tub.  We have been noticing a pattern that he will spike at about 173 when he gets out.  Rod is concerned about the number, but Elanda and I aren't.    John recovers very quickly, and the spike is a pattern that is likely caused from the shock of his body going from the 103.8 degree hot tub and being rather still, to standing and moving out into the 85 degree room.  At the clinic, Matt hasn't been taking his HR after John gets out of the hyperthermia suit, so we have nothing to compare the spike to.  Today, we only got John up to 101.7, and we made his exit from the tub more gradual, but we still got a spike at 164.  I talked to Matt about it, and he didn't seem concerned.

We got to play with Alexa the Amazon bot again.  You can say "Alexa, open Akinator" and she will ask you to think of a real or fictional character.  Then she asks you yes or no questions to try to guess which character you are thinking of.  She got Bugs Bunny, Hong Kong Phooey and Newman, but struggled with Johnny Appleseed, requiring well over 20 questions to get the answer. She also wasn't close with William Wilberforce or John Snow.  A little warning though, Alexa gets pretty wild with her questions.  She asked us if our character has killed humans.  She asked if our character was short and then followed with asking us if said character was Asian.  Yikes.

The rest of our day today was another Cafe Zupas salad (Maui tropical, hold the wontons, swap cinnamon almonds for the macadamias, extra mandarins) and some chilling out in the hotel room.  I'm completely bored but John seems content anyway. Three more days until we go home to our family and doggies.  Nothing like the warm welcome that two crazy, excited dogs will give a boy who misses them so.

Biopterin Pathway

I realized it has been a while since I've blogged.  Got caught up in the lack of schedule over the last month.  Things are fully back to normal for us Friday, as we go back to our homeschool co-op.  It is a God-sent for us, as it gives the kids a different offering of classes from what we do at home, and it also gives them a social outlet too.  For me, it has given me a change to get back to teaching, as I teach Algebra 1, 2 and Chemistry. Ferritin Issues, Dirty Genes and Fermented Wheat Germ Extract

I think last time I blogged, we were going to push detox using Desbio Metal Detox and Mineral Rebalancing system.  We had 3 great days, and boom.  Crash.  John wasn't feeling all that great again, and reported pressure behind his eyeballs, dizziness, and weakness.  Eyeball pressure and migraines behind the eyeballs translates to one and only thing for me:  IRON, particularly the storage iron form of ferritin. My father had low ferritin the month before he passed away.  I have had low ferritin for at least 8 years.  My oldest son, Patrick, has had low ferritin at least for 3 years.  John has had low ferritin for at least 5 years.  It's a thing with us.  The only thing that has made my levels move in any significant fashion has been consuming betaine, acid pills that help the breakdown of foods in the stomach.  Problem is, I have to remember to take it with each meal, and when everyone else is sick and I'm juggling their numerous supplements, I forget to take my own. Letting go, dumbest thing ever, and more

It's been a while since I have blogged.  As much as things have changed, much has remained the same.  John is continuing to have very hard days.  He's very tired and has roving joint pain still.  We ran blood work and found low vitamin D again and low iron.  His thyroid looks good, so it's just the nutrient deficiencies and the Lyme issues.  The constant fatigue is tough to deal with, so he decided to  take a hockey break. He handled it better than I did, as I cried on and off for days.  It wasn't that he isn't playing hockey... it's the fact that he even had to choose to give up something he loves. We read in our local Lyme support group on Facebook that someone had cancelled an appointment with our doctor, so I tried to take the appointment 11 minutes after I saw the cancellation.  Nope.  Taken.  That quickly.  But, there was another slot, Tuesday at 9.  It took me 2 hrs 10 min to get to the clinic during rush hour.  Yuck.  But Dr. K as worth it.  She was im
